Norton Antivirus Review
Product Review: Norton Antivirus Vrs. Free Avast Anti-Virus
I had beed a happy user of Norton Antivirus until recently.
In the past, I had always had Norton Antivirus to protect my computers and laptops from virus, spyware, adware, malicius cookies, etc.
Norton seemed to be working fine for me until recently, I purchased an insurance brokerage office with all the computers working under a Local Area Network envirement.
So, in order for me to access the shared files in the pre set up server, I had to be connected to the server and no matter how hard I tried to get connected to the network I just could not.
Having no other choice, I had to call for a tech to come to my office so that he could connect my new laptop to the network and to the printers.
After the tech hassle for a while trying to install the printer, he then concluded that Norton Antivirus was not allowing me to connect to the network because Norton was blocking my access to the server.
The computer tech told me that he had experience the same problem in the past and that he would un-install Norton Antivirus temporarely and then try to see if he could could connect to the server.
After removing Norton Antivirus from my laptop, the tech was able to successfully connect to the server and the printers were working just fine.
I then re installed Norton into my laptop and as you can imagine, I started getting problems with my laptop one more time.
I could not explained why I could not print or access the public folders in my server.
After a couple of frustrating hours trying to figure it out on my own, I called the same tech that had fixed my computer to ask him why I experiencing difficulties.
He then asked me if I had re-installed Norton Antivirus and as you already know, my answer was Yes!
The tech then advised me to remove Norton Antivirus permanently and intead to install a FREE copy of antivirus named Avast.
At the beginning, I could not beleive the kind of advice I was getting.
How could a free antivirus work better than a antivirus I had to pay for it?
You would probably ask yourself the same question, right?
Well, to make the long story short, I reluctantly did what the tech recomended me to do.
I removed Norton Antivirus permanently from my computer and I installed the free copy of Avast antivirus.
My tech told me that right after the installation of Avast Antivirus, the software was going to scan the computer for viruses and which it did.
Luckily, my coputer was not infected with anything but I did install the free copy of Avast Antivirus in another computer in my network and Avast Antivirus did what it had to do…It removed a ton of files that were infected with all kinds of viruses.
I still find it hard to beleive that a free antivirus would do such an amazing job…But it does!
Just one thing I got to tell you so that you don’t have any issues conecting to network or experience problems printing with the shared printers in your network.
After you have downloaded and install Avast Antivirus in your computer, I would recommend you to let Avast Antivirus do a complete scan of your computer.
Right after the full computer scan, you are going to have to modify the installation of Avast Antivirus just a bit.
If you are using windows, you will have to go to the control panel, click on “Add or Remove Programs”, find in the list “Avast Antivirus” and click on it.
Click on the “Change / Remove” buttom, and the avast setup window will pop up.
The “Change” installed componets icon will be highlighted…Just click Next.
At the top of the list, you will see a list named “Resident Protection”
You are going to have to un-check the “Network Shield” protection.
Click on next and the software will automatically update for you. Click on the “Finish” icon and you are done.
You should not any problems any longer or at least, I hope you don’t.
Before I forgot, let me tell you where you can download your free copy of Avast Antivirus.
